Meet Our Chief Instructor
Taylor Kent - Chief Instructor
Taylor Kent started training in the Martial Arts at the age of 11 looking to build confidence and self awareness. She earned her First Degree Black Belt in Kyuki-Do at the age of 17 and continued to train with a desire to learn and build her skills. After graduating High School she went on to college with a similar desire. Training in multiple styles while away from home and teaching classes to others. Upon moving back to Wisconsin in 2019 she went back to training at her original Academy in Janesville. In 2020 she began helping in classes and soon found a love for helping others become their best selves through Martial Arts. In October of 2021 Taylor became the Chief Instructor at AKF Martial Arts of Delavan.
Growing up, I often felt like a ship adrift in a tumultuous sea, searching for an anchor. I found it in Martial Arts, which became a lighthouse that guided me through the fog of my early life and taught me valuable lessons that would shape me into the person I am today. Born into a fractured household where life was often stressful and chaotic, my personality during my younger years was marked by introversion and isolation, always receding as the quiet watcher. When I was 11, I felt a pressing need for security and self-assurance, leading me to explore the realm of Martial Arts as a way to learn self-defense.
From my first day at the AKF Martial Arts Academy, I found a new home where I could forge unique friendships and take inspiration from mentors who guided me in building the confidence to be seen and heard. Driven by an unquenchable desire to learn and grow stronger in self-awareness, I wholeheartedly immersed myself in the world of Martial Arts, earning my First Degree Kyuki-Do Black Belt in 2014.
Having made the life-changing decision to relocate to Minnesota for college, I stumbled upon a new Academy offering Hopki-Do. With a profound yearning ignited within me, I was driven to pursue further training and personal growth, leading me to enroll and ultimately teach in the Judo classes offered on campus.
My quest for knowledge was no longer a solitary pursuit – I began sharing my knowledge and skills with others, teaching at night and helping my peers draw out their innate confidence and instincts for standing up for what is right. In 2019, I returned to Wisconsin and rejoined AKF of Janesville as a full-time student, earning my Second Black Belt in Kyuki-Do. As the world started to recover from the pandemic, I began offering private lessons to upcoming Black Belt aspirants and assisting in classes. My passion for teaching blossomed into a full-time
commitment at AKF Delavan in October 2020, and 12 months later, I stepped into my current role as the Chief Instructor at the Academy as a college graduate.
